NADA MIAMI 2025

December 2–6, 2025
Ice Palace Studios, Miami
Duane Thomas Gallery participated in NADA Miami 2025, where presented new and recent works by Benedikt Gahl, Cynthia Carlson, Jenny Kemp, and Morteza Khakshoor.
At the center of the booth was be Benedikt Gahl’s (b. 1972, Munich) monumental four-meter-long sculpture Goldjunge, shown alongside a selection of recent paintings. Known for
his painterly sensibility that merges intuitive mark-making, Gahl’s practice reflects a continuous dialogue between surface and structure, perception and memory. Goldjunge extends this
exploration into three dimensions, translating his chromatic and compositional instincts into a spatial form that hovers between sculpture, object, and painting in relief.
Cynthia Carlson (b. 1942, Chicago; lives and works in New York) debuted a group of new paintings. A central figure of the 1970s Pattern and Decoration movement, Carlson continues to challenge distinctions between ornament and expression. Her new works—playful, tactile, and unapologetically exuberant—offer a contemporary meditation on urban landscapes, excess, and
the pleasures of making.
Completing the presentation, Jenny Kemp (b. 1982, Reading, PA; lives and works in Albany, NY) exhibited a new series of paintings characterized by her luminous gradients and interlaced
linear motifs. Through a process that combines meticulous planning with improvisation, Kemp builds optical fields that evoke both organic growth and digital vibration. Her work captures the tension between control and fluidity, structure
and emergence—echoing the larger currents of contemporary abstraction that tie this presentation together.
Morteza Khakshoor also premiered a new work following his solo show with the gallery in 2023.
Together, these works articulate a shared commitment to the vitality of painterly language, while offering distinct approaches to color, pattern, and materiality.
